Loudoun County, VA – Former Speaker of the House Eileen Filler-Corn has been leading the charge for access to reproductive healthcare for Virginia women for over a decade.
In 2012, while Democrats were still in the minority, Filler-Corn fought against the Republican “transvaginal” bill and led the successful charge to get Republicans to shelve their “personhood” bill after forcing the GOP to take a vote against contraception.
Speaker Filler-Corn is 100 percent pro-choice and has always defended a woman’s right to choose. When she led House Democrats to successfully win the Democratic Majority for the first time in a generation, she got to work.
As the first woman to be Speaker of the House she led the Commonwealth to repeal abortion restrictions that right-wing Republicans had put in place. She worked to make contraception more accessible and affordable, successfully sponsoring a bill requiring all health benefit plans to provide coverage for a full year of contraceptives.
As the mother of a daughter, advocating for reproductive rights and freedom is at the core of her motivation. In Congress, she will fight to codify Roe, protect reproductive healthcare and freedom, and stand up to Republicans to stop a national abortion ban and their plan to eliminate IVF.
